In the KS2 magic square to help teach the times tables there is a colour code. All multiples of 3 have green in the design ,for example squares 3, 6, 9 contain some green.
All the colours from 3 – 9 have their own colour code.
4 = YELLOW 5 = LIGHT BLUE 6 = RED 7 = ORANGE 8 = DARK BLUE 9 = PINK PRIME NUMBERS = BLACK
X =
So, the square 20 which is 4 x 5 would have yellow and light blue in the design:
X AND X =
Some squares have more colours like 42 which is 6 x 7 and also 3 x 14 but only the numbers 3 – 9 are in the colour code so 42 contains RED, ORANGE AND GREEN (3,6 and 7)
PRIME NUMBERS:
The black squares are prime numbers the first prime numbers 1,2,3,5,7 and 9 don’t follow this rule as the times tables colour code takes preference.
Can you work out a pattern for the numbers on the white squares ?
